On 15th December, 1914, the 2nd Essex battalion of 12 Brigade, 4th Division moved into trenches near Le Touquet, a small hamlet near Ploegsteert, in Belgium. On 20th December, the day on which Frederick Eade was killed, the battalion kept up heavy fire in preparation for the renewal of an an attack by 11 Brigade between Le Gheer and St Ives. Later that day 2nd Essex were relieved and moved back to billets. |
